What is an Affidavit of Support / Invitation Letter?
This document is used by a Canadian resident or citizen to sponsor a foreign national visiting Canada, confirming they will provide financial support and accommodation during the visit. It is commonly submitted with a Canadian visitor visa application to demonstrate that the visitor has ties to Canada and a host who will take responsibility for them.
When Would You Use This?
- Sponsoring a family member or friend applying for a Canadian visitor visa
- Providing financial guarantee for a visitor who needs proof of Canadian support
- Supporting a visa application where the applicant needs to show accommodation arrangements
- Confirming to IRCC that a visitor has a legitimate reason to enter and leave Canada
