What is a Certificate of Identity?
A certificate of identity is a document signed by a notary public or commissioner of oaths confirming the identity of an individual. It is used when a person cannot obtain or renew a government-issued passport or travel document, or when a formal identification document is required for legal or administrative purposes.
When Would You Use This?
- As a travel document when a passport cannot be obtained in time
- Required by a government agency, court, or institution to confirm your identity
- Immigration purposes where standard documentation is unavailable
- To confirm the identity of a person for estate or legal proceedings
