What is a Child Travel Consent Letter?
A child travel consent letter is a document signed by one or both parents (or legal guardians) giving permission for a minor child to travel internationally without one or both parents present. The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and border authorities in many countries strongly recommend — and sometimes require — this letter when a child travels alone, with only one parent, or with another adult.
When Would You Use This?
- A child is travelling internationally with only one parent
- A child is travelling with grandparents, other relatives, or a school group
- A child is travelling alone
- Border authorities or airlines request proof of parental consent
