Child support in Canada is calculated using the Federal Child Support Guidelines, which establish a table amount based on the paying parent's gross annual income and the number of children. This worksheet guides you through the calculation process and helps you document the figures needed for a separation agreement, court filing, or negotiation.

What the worksheet covers

The worksheet walks through: identifying the applicable provincial or territorial table; determining gross annual income; calculating the base table amount; identifying special or extraordinary expenses (Section 7 expenses) such as childcare, medical, and extracurricular costs; and calculating each party's proportionate share of those expenses.

Important caveat

Child support is a legal right that belongs to the child and cannot be waived by the parents. Courts can review and override any support agreement that does not comply with the Guidelines. This worksheet is a planning tool — legal advice is recommended before finalizing any support arrangement.
