An employment verification letter for visa purposes is issued by an employer confirming that an employee is currently employed, stating their position, salary, length of service, and approved leave dates. It is one of the most commonly required documents in visa and immigration applications and is used to demonstrate that the applicant has strong ties to their home country and a genuine reason to return after their visit.
What visa officers look for
A visa officer reviewing an application will use the employment letter to assess whether the applicant has stable employment and a compelling reason to return home — reducing the risk they will overstay their visa. The letter should be on company letterhead, signed by a senior HR representative or manager, and include direct contact information for verification.
What to include
The letter should state: the employee's full name and job title; date of hire and current employment status; annual salary or hourly wage; approved leave dates and confirmation that the position will be held open; and a statement that the employee is expected to return to work on a specified date.
